Personally I am a huge fan of the game of basketball and would love to see something like that go into the White House. I believe it shows his side as an every day human being. Obama told reporters that he tries to get out and play everyday, acting normal as if he can. The flip side of this argument is that while were paying taxes, that money were paying is going to the contractors laying the new floor and putting in the glass backboards. So my question is what is your take? Where do you stand on a new basketball court in the White House? Do you oppose it? Or like me, do you think its a playful and good symbol?

Changes in the White House?
In an interview conducted with Barack Obama earlier this year, he told ESPN that if elected, he would place a basketball court within the White House. Now to some that sounds like one of the coolest things a president could do. To many people it symbolizes his youth and playfulness. But what you don't realize is that he will be using our money to reconstruct the White House. So there are two sides to this. Either favor the new elect president Obama or go against him and his new hard wood floor.

The New Season
On Friday, the basketball team jump-starts their new season. As coach Doherty tells the team everyday, "We need to flip last years record". Last year the team went 10-20, showing bright-spots among the freshman and returning Center Bamba Fall. The addition of two highly recruited freshman that rank nationally, the team looks to be capable of shining in Conference USA this year. However, a team cannot win without their fans. Last year SMU ranked in the top 5 for biggest increases percentage wise for average attendance. We jumped 60.2%, but we are still lacking. To get this team where it needs to be and a potential NCAA bid, the fans are what make the difference. Making another team fear an away game is what we need to bring to SMU.
So I am asking you, why not come to every game? Games run every Wednesday or Saturday and usually begin at 7 p.m. The team is looking for your support and trust me, by coming to these games we have a chance to get SMU on the map nationally and bring in a highly touted freshman in the upcoming future. Wouldn't you like to have the next Michael Jordan or Lebron James at our college someday? We lost two recruits this year already because they believed that our fans were lacking and that they did not want to play in that environment. So as freshman at SMU, lets make a change.

The Start of Something New...
Today was the start of something very new for me. After classes were over I went to the Student Activities office and planned out probably the most time consuming activity I could possibly imagine. I decided that I would start my own new fraternity here at SMU. Everyone in my hall told me that it was a great idea and well I decided to just go for it. As of right now I only have my basic plan, which is to help get this chartered by another fraternity and to start getting the necessary funds and create a foundation for this all to start rolling.
My plan is to start a Business/ Engineering fraternity mainly open to those choosing that as their major. I know this is going to be a lot of work but right now I have a lot of support from different guys around me. Also, I know that if this does get started, we will need a place to live, so housing is another big concern of mine. I mean how do you feel though, think I'll actually do it?
To me this is an opportunity to show a new identity for students on this campus and to do something new. Go outside the realm of every other student here and be the founder of something new. I know it's going to be a lot of work, but hey, anything is possible right?
As for now I'm just setting up a few meetings and feeling my way through the beginning stages, wish me luck I guess and I will be sure to inform you of something new as soon as I find out myself

Big Names are Going to Get Big Competition
Look around you, how many people currently have their iphones or blackberries attached at their hips and how many of them are currently using them? See, its amazing how much of an impact new cell phone technology has had in society. And look how successful companies such as Macintosh and Blackberry have become from the innovation of their phones throughout the years. Unfortunately for them, they'll need to split the market into a third direction come September 23rd with the release of Googles new cell phone. They're basing the phone on the new Android type, which will make it accessible for everyone. Man this is going to be big....for some.
To me, a phone is merely a phone. Its used to call from one person to another, right? So why is everyone so attached to their iphones and in love with themselves on facebook that they need to either be on it with their laptop, or with their cell phone. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe this world does depend on us being on Facebook every other hour of every single day or else everything in this universe will melt (which i highly highly doubt). Things have been spiraling out of control in the technology market over the last 10 years, and now its google coming out with a phone that is supposedly able to have the touch-screen capabilities of the iphone, along with a flip out keyboard, while all using Googles network to run the internet. So in the end, all of this is getting quite ridiculous in my viewpoint. However, competition is competition and that's how our market survives. Wow I love this world and it's obsession with technology.
